Do you have a fairy godhunk?

You’re probably familiar with the fairy godmother concept, but have you ever contemplated the possibility of a fairy godhunk? The dictionary.com definition of fairy godmother is a generous benefactor.

Well, I say it’s past time to rethink this gender-specific stereotype and create what we really want:

A Fairy Godhunk

So, I’m closing my eyes, making a wish, and I choose…

What is the deal?

It hurts me that Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson left us many, many years before their time. This is how I will always remember them.

Appaloosa - Have you seen this new western movie?

I live a little ways southwest of the geodetic center of the United States (48 contiguous states). In plain terms, this means I live 250 miles southwest of the Middle of Nowhere. :-) On census reports, our area is classified as rural/frontier, so you can imagine the lack of local conveniences, one of which is the absence of a theater. To see a new movie, I have to travel 300 miles round trip. Needless to say, I don’t see many movies until months after they open. I also don’t have satellite or cable (blog topic for later date). I wait until movies come out on dvd and buy them.

So, what’s the point of this fascinating, but useless information about the plight of my inability to see new movies at the time of their release? Well, I’ll tell you. Have you seen the new western movie (new as of October 2008) APPALOOSA?

I haven’t. If you have, what did you think? Leave your comments here and tell me about it. I’m eager to see it. With Ed Harris (also director and involved with the screenplay), Viggo Mortensen, and Jeremy Irons, even if the plot fails, you can’t go wrong with just looking at these guys and…sighing. :-)

Cowboy Chat Room DEBUT Day#11- My ride-off-into-the-sunset…

…cowboy. The cowboy I’d follow to the deepest bowels of hell; the epitome of the cowboy persona; the one, the only…not so fast. Let’s increase the suspense with a bit of trivia.

Today’s mystery cowboy’s first acting role was Card Player #2 in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

He played a lifeguard and also starred opposite Cher and Whoopie Goldberg in other movies.

He met his wife of 25 years in a not-so-well-known cult film, The Legacy. They’d both been in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but didn’t actually meet. They starred in The Shadow Riders and Conagher later on. <I’m so envious of her.>

You may recognize his deep, resonant voice when he says, “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” and the voice of Ben the Cow in Barnyard.  He also played Evil Knievel in a movie by the same name.

He has a plethora of western movies or movies in which he plays a cowboy-type: The Quick and the Dead, Road House, Gettysburg, Buffalo Girls, Ghost Rider, Tombstone, Desperate Trail, Molly and Lawless John, Ghostrider, You Know My Name, Golden Compass, Yellow Rose, Wild Times, and Hi-Lo Country.

Speaking of the Hi-Lo Country, a portion of the movie was filmed in a small rural town - Pritchett, Colorado -just 15 miles from where I live in Springfield. He and Woody Harrelson impressed the locals here with their friendly, engaging personalities. I didn’t get to meet him, but one of my sons spent an entire evening with him. <<<<<<<<<insert big regretful sigh here

Have you identified my perfect cowboy, my ultimate idea of a cowboy wrapped up in one irresistable man?

I thought you would. :-) But I’ll tell you anyway. Sam Elliott.

Day #9 (of 11) of Cowboy Countdown to New Chat Room

We’re almost there. Almost to the debut of my new cowboy chat room, LARIATS & LATIGO, on January 16 from 7pm to 9pm Mountain and every Friday night after that. Be sure to stop in and…bring a friend.

Here is a bit of trivia about my cowboy of the day.

He decided early in his acting career to not make sequels. So far, he has remained true to that decision.

He has been in two movies about John F. Kennedy, but hasn’t portrayed him.

He owns a ranch outside of Aspen, Colorado. (My home state, by the way.)

His favorite genre is western although he has been in many more non-western movies than westerns.

Has been quoted saying James Stewart was a significant inspiration for him as an actor in westerns.

He tours with his rock/country band as lead singer.

He has won two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director of the same movie.

He has two films on the American Film Institute’s 100 Most Inspiring Films of All Time: Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams.

Here he is, Kevin Costner.                     kevin costner

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen are defrocked, shouldn’t it follow that cowboys are deranged???????
