…cowboy. The cowboy I’d follow to the deepest bowels of hell; the epitome of the cowboy persona; the one, the only…not so fast. Let’s increase the suspense with a bit of trivia.
Today’s mystery cowboy’s first acting role was Card Player #2 in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
He played a lifeguard and also starred opposite Cher and Whoopie Goldberg in other movies.
He met his wife of 25 years in a not-so-well-known cult film, The Legacy. They’d both been in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but didn’t actually meet. They starred in The Shadow Riders and Conagher later on. <I’m so envious of her.>
You may recognize his deep, resonant voice when he says, “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” and the voice of Ben the Cow in Barnyard. He also played Evil Knievel in a movie by the same name.
He has a plethora of western movies or movies in which he plays a cowboy-type: The Quick and the Dead, Road House, Gettysburg, Buffalo Girls, Ghost Rider, Tombstone, Desperate Trail, Molly and Lawless John, Ghostrider, You Know My Name, Golden Compass, Yellow Rose, Wild Times, and Hi-Lo Country.
Speaking of the Hi-Lo Country, a portion of the movie was filmed in a small rural town - Pritchett, Colorado -just 15 miles from where I live in Springfield. He and Woody Harrelson impressed the locals here with their friendly, engaging personalities. I didn’t get to meet him, but one of my sons spent an entire evening with him. <<<<<<<<<insert big regretful sigh here
Have you identified my perfect cowboy, my ultimate idea of a cowboy wrapped up in one irresistable man?
I thought you would.
But I’ll tell you anyway. Sam Elliott.
